Command Bar Reference

Press : from Normal or View mode to open the command bar. Commands support tab-completion on both the command name and, where applicable, their arguments.


Notes

Command Action
:noteAdd <name> Create a new note
:noteOpen <name> Open a note
:noteRename <name> Rename the current note (all links to it are rewritten automatically)
:noteDelete Delete the current note (prompts for confirmation)

Journals

Command Action
:journalOpen <ref> Open a journal entry. <ref> can be: today, yesterday, tomorrow, this-week, last-week, next-week, this-month, last-month, this-year, last-year, or a date like 2025-03-15
:journalReview <period> Open all entries for a period side by side. <period>: day, week, month, or year
:journalDelete [<ref>] Delete a journal entry. Uses the same refs as :journalOpen. Omit <ref> to delete the currently open entry.

Templates

Command Action
:templateAdd <name> Create a new template
:templateOpen <name> Open a template for editing
:templateRename <name> Rename the current template
:templateDelete Delete the current template (prompts for confirmation)

Bookmarks

Command Action
:bookmarkAdd [<name>] Bookmark the current tab
:bookmarkEdit Open the bookmarks file directly for manual editing

To open a bookmark, use the command palette (ctrl+p) and search for "bookmark".


Vaults

Command Action
:vaultSwitch <name> Switch to an already-registered vault by its folder name
:vaultLoad <path> Load a vault by path, registering it if it is new
:vaultCreate <path> Create a new vault at the given path

Command Action
:search <query> Full-text search across the entire vault (regex-compatible)
/<pattern> Highlight matches of <pattern> in the current file. Run with no pattern to clear.

File and buffer

Command Action
:w Save the current file
:wq Save and quit
:q Quit (warns if there are unsaved changes)
:q! Force quit without saving
:reload Reload the current file from disk, discarding any unsaved changes
:recover Restore the current file's content from its swap file after a crash

Command Action
:<n> Go to line n (e.g. :42)
:+<n> Move n lines down from the current line (e.g. :+5)
:-<n> Move n lines up from the current line (e.g. :-3)

Editing

Command Action
:TabsToSpaces Convert all tab characters in the current file to spaces, using the tab_spaces setting
